RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) _ A Palestinian medical official says Israeli troops have shot and wounded an unarmed man in the West Bank.
The official says troops in the village of Naalin late Sunday shot the mentally disabled man who is in his mid-30s. He was hit with three rubber-coated bullets, lost an eye and is currently hospitalized in serious condition. The medical official could not be named because he was not authorized to make the details public.
The Israeli military says the man attacked soldiers who were arresting his brother for his role in an earlier disturbance. They say he tried to grab a rifle from a soldier before he was shot.
The Israeli human rights group B'Tselem says Israeli troops have killed two Palestinians and wounded others this year with ostensibly nonlethal rubber-coated ammunition.
